Damage From Critters

I enjoy the wild life but sometimes they can be destructive little critters!
Squirrels for example, can do a bit of damage to the fruit of tomato plants. They love to get them in the green stage before they have a chance to ripen....bite a hole in the fruit and getting the liquid from the fruit. They do not eat the rest but leave it lying on the ground.
My garden was heavily damaged last year. One thing that helps keep the squirrels away is to tie up Irish Spring or other high smelling soap on a string near the plants.

I have had people complain about deer. They really hate them. Eat all of their plants.

The deer may leave the garden alone with the use of Irish Spring or strong soap.

Irish Spring? Why do the deer not like that? The taste?

No it is the smell of the deod soap. Very strong and the deer will stay away from it. My brother in law used it on his farm and it worked for him.

If you are thinking of my brother in law.....well he has used the soap for many years.
For me I move the tomato section to different parts of the garden each year so not sure if the squirrels will bother them in a new location this year. If so the soap will be used.
